Who would have thought a pair of trousers needed so much attention? But as the weeks go by and everyone oohs and aahs at your swelling belly, and you look at zippers that don’t close with increasing disbelief, believe me, you will love this guide!
IF YOU ARE BUYING JUST THE ONE:
For a capsule wardrobe, make sure you choose a colour that works with most of your wardrobe, and you will never miss not buying more. Remember, if you are buying only a few key pieces, you can actually afford to buy something wonderful, which you will enjoy wearing throughout your pregnancy.
- Breathable, stretchy, fabric
- Neutral colours: black, navy or beige, or even lightweight denim, depending on your lifestyle
- Shorter lengths if yours is a summer baby
- Gusset down the front, avoid zippers and buttons
- Elasticated waists work, but prefer one with an adjustable elastic (they have buttonholes at various lengths that let you adjust the waist)
IF YOU WANT TO BUY ONE MORE
The rules remain the same, but you can afford to experiment with the next one. A bright, maybe happy print, stripes or even a tartan! Let this be your “I am letting my hair down” outfit, unless of course, you are planning to work through your pregnancy, in which case, stick to neutrals again.
IF YOU WANT A WHOLE NEW CLOSET
The world is your oyster, and you are the fashionista!!Buy what you will, look for colours and prints and cutesy graphics, if that is your style. But please don’t go overboard, because you will only wear these clothes for less than a year.
DO NOT FORGET
You will have tons of yoga pants, drawstring pyjamas, stretch pants and salwars in your closet which you can continue to wear through most of your pregnancy, or at least until the last few weeks. So choose wisely, and choose well. Remember to buy ethically sourced, sustainable fashion, after all, this is the world your baby will inherit from you!
